Last weekend the paddock of the TT circuit in Assen was red all over during the annual Ducaticlub races. The organizer of this event The Ducati Club Netherlands is the largest Ducati club in the world with almost 4,000 members and organized this event for the 38th time. The Supermonos were present again after three years. They had a great weekend thanks to the beautiful weather.

On Saturday, there were two qualifications and it became apparent that you could count on at least two groups during the races. The fast-experienced group including the Austrians Josef Frauenschuh and Lukas Wimmer; and Mike Velthuijzen and Joris de Man from the Netherlands including two young Dutch motor3 guest riders. On the other hand, there was a group of riders like the Dutch Technical High school pilot Cas Gerritzen and several pilots from England, France and Germany, including six rookies on a Krämer EVO2, where also a battle was expected.

Unfortunately Jerry van de Bunt, the champion of 2016 was absent due to his work within the WorldSBK team of Stefan Bradl.

Race 1 A Flag to finish race for Austrian Lukas Wimmer. Frauenschuh drove the whole race behind him, but wasn’t able to get closer. In place three and four there was a fierce battle but in the end Mike Velthuijzen was the strongest and finished third on his Yamaha with a new OVER ov 20 frame from Japan. Johann Karl (GER) who had a very bad start, was able to improve himself and claimed the fourth place. The Italian Emiliano Lazzarini suffered technical problems and finished as 6th.

Race 2 A blistering start of Frauenschuh results in the second lap to drive one lap in the lead. Unfortunately the more than two-times older Frauenschuh could not hold on to the 23-year-old Wimmer and in the end he had to be satisfied with the second place.

Guestrider Ryan van de Lagemaat on his Moto3 finished as third. The best Supermono-rookie this weekend became the German pilot Dennis Bayreuther #10. Emiliano Lazzarini could not solve the technical issue suffered in the first race and therefore he retired in the second lap.
