Race report FIM Europe Supermono Cup round 1

Wimmer and van de Bunt winners at the Nürburgring

Some 35 single cylinder pilots attended last weekend at the German Eiffel circuit.

The Supermono pilots were hosted as one of the support classes at the German IDM Superbike round at the Nurnburgring. New for this year is that grids up to 40 pilots are to be expected as a result of a cooperation with the Dutch KTM Duke Battle Cup and the German Kraemer Cup.

Lukas Wimmer was the lucky winner of race one due to a DNF of pole setter van de Bunt.

Race two was a flag to finish win for van de Bunt.

Race 1

Jerry van de Bunt was allowed to start from pole but had to pull in at lap 2 due to a technical failure. His closest competitor and 2015 champion Lukas Wimmer won therefor the race with a comfortable lead followed by French pilot David Legalle. Dutchman Mike Velthuijzen finished third after his sabbatical year. Arie Vos onboard a KTM Duke finished in fifth place.

Race 2

Argentinian Ezequiel Iturrioz grabbed the holeshot when the lights went out for race 2 but Jerry van de Bunt stamped his authority in lap 2 and took revenge after his DNF in race one by taking the win. Austrian Lukas Wimmer finished second. Dutch rider Arie Vos was battling in a group of four for the final podium place, but finished just behind Austrian Josef Frauenschuh and ended fourth. Mike Velthuijzen who scored a podium in race one had to pull in after a couple laps due to an exhaust problem.
