Double for Wimmer at Zolder

Lukas Wimmer from Austria was the big winner of the two FIM Europe Supermono Cup races at the Belgium circuit of Zolder. Guest rider and former multiple Superbike Champion Arie Vos from the Netherlands took a third and second place on board the 690m KTM Super Duke.

Race 1 Saturday July 11th

Weather conditions : Sunny and warm 32 degrees Celsius

In the first 8 Lap race held on Saturday afternoon Lukas Wimmer on a Krämer KTM EVO2 took a decisive victory with an appropriate advantage (3.7 seconds) on Dutch Raha Rotax rider Jerry van de Bunt.

Guest rider Arie Vos who missed the prestart and had to start from behind had a blistering start but could not join the two leaders and had a thrilling battle with Austrian Josef Frauenschuh for third place. Allan Østli onboard his JSB Ducati had to pull in with technical problems.

Christian Schmeink from Germany finished in fifth position followed by his fellow countryman Manni Kehrmann and Dutch rider Niels Gerritsen. Franck Delaury from France was involved in a crash and was taken to hospital with a leg fracture.

Race 2 Sunday July 12th

Weather conditions : Dry with some clouds 23 degrees Celsius

In the second 10 Lap race held on Sunday afternoon the spectators saw an exciting battle between Lukas Wimmer and Jerry van de Bunt. The two young riders are a match for each other until van de Bunt had to pull in at the penultimate round due to technical problems.

Vos riding on a third place already built a nice lead on Josef Frauenschuh on a JF-KTM. However Vos decided to slow down as he could not close the gap on the leaders. Vos and Frauenschuh made a nice battle and due to the DNF of Jerry van de Bunt,

Vos managed to take 2nd place and Frauenschuh from Austria took 3rd place.

Christian Schmeink ended fourth followed by Niels Gerritsen and David Hampton.

Emiliano Lazzarini (DNF) was involved in a crash together with British Perry Goldstein and Joris de Man from the Dutch HTS Racingteam. Perry managed to pick up his bike and scored 10 points for the Championship.
