Race report FIM Europe Supermono Cup round 1 Croix en Ternois, France April 11th-12th

Some 25 riders from across Europe gathered at the circuit of Croix en Ternois in Northern France for the first round of the European Supermono Cup.

Reigning champion Mike Velthuijzen was not able to attend due to an off road accident some weeks earlier. The weather conditions: cold, windy and some shower rain in between Q1 and Q2.

After Q2 it was Dutch rider Jerry van de Bunt who stamped his authority by setting pole,mfollowed by Lukas Wimmer, Allan Ostli and newcomer David Hampton, all far under the 1 minute laptime.

Race 1

Weather conditions: Sunny and 17 degrees Celcius.

As the lights went out Lukas Wimmer took a blistering start and immediate lead for a 17 lap race as behind him Allan Ostli and Jerry van de Bunt were flipping coins for best positions.

It was young Wimmer who took victory home for Austria with a fasted lap of 56.20 an advantage of 8,9 seconds on number two Danish rider Ostli and third Jerry van de Bunt.

DNF for David Hampton on the Tigcraft, Maarten Janssens, Jean Claude Paul, Marjorie Herve and Libor Kamenicky.

Race 2

Weather conditions: Sunny and 20 degrees

It seemed a rehearsal of race one until Wimmer lost his front in the first lefthander and had to pickup his Krämer KTM to continue his 15 lap race as meanwhile Henry Jocelyn, Allan Ostli and Jerry van de Bunt were leading the race and flipping coins for best positions. After a thrilling race Wimmer Battled himself back to the front and took the chequered flag first followed by Ostli and Henry. Only Maarten Janssens from Belgium had a DNF.
